top 100 lawyers for 2015.
Gary Newman has enjoyed an honored career spanning more than four decades.  His skills as a consummate professional were again recognized when he was named as one of the top 100 lawyers for 2015 by New Jersey Super Lawyers Magazine.

Gary started his career as an Assistant Prosecutor in Hudson County where he practiced for 2½ years. Motivated by an interest in family law, he joined Skoloff & Wolfe in 1978 and then continued on a path that led to the establishment of the firm that was to become Newman McDonough Schofel & Giger.

Over his career, Gary has tried more than 100 cases and represented thousands of individuals, in courts across New Jersey as well as in New York and Florida, where he is also admitted.  His experience as an advocate is well complemented by his expertise as a mediator and legal counselor.  His reputation for honesty, integrity and fairness is well known.  Consequently, Mr. Newman regularly receives appointments to serve as a mediator or arbitrator from the many judges in the region who know  and respect him.

Gary Newman has lectured in the field of Family Law to the Essex County Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and to the New Jersey State Bar through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.   He is also the author of a chapter in Family Law Practice in New Jersey entitled Trial Practice Considerations.  Mr. Newman has appeared as a guest speaker on numerous television and radio broadcasts, including Court TV regarding Family Law and related topics.

As noted above, Gary has often been recognized as one of the leaders in his field.  In addition to his 2015 selection as a top attorney in New Jersey, he has been recognized by New Jersey Super Lawyers for the years 2005 through 2013 and named as one of the Best Lawyers in America for 2011, as well as by New York Magazine as one of the New York Area’s Top Attorneys for 2011.  In 2011, he was deeply honored to receive the Essex County Bar Association Family Law Achievement Award, presented by federal court judge, the Honorable William J. Martini of the United States District Court, District of New Jersey.
